Project Description
Seeds for Vegan Village Uganda
Just like Plenty Food does in the Netherlands, Vegan Village Society actively campaigns about the benefits of veganism (such as organizing an annual Vegan festival) in Uganda. Bob Rumanzi, founder of Vegan Village Society, is truly an example to the community by innovatively working towards a sustainable future. With a world in crisis and increasing chronic malnutrition, he focuses on a different approach: agricultural education, guidance to women’s groups and raising broad awareness about the benefits of compassion for non-human animals.
The vegan community in Uganda is growing like crazy, but also needs support. Founder and agricultural expert Bob Mwene Rumanzi provides materials and advice such as which crops can best be combined or should be followed up, how to best grow organically and how to best save vegetable seeds for the next season. The collaboration is with various women’s groups that already work together in a village context or from their church. However, of the groups he works with, 3 groups have a problem with water supply as they now have to walk 5 km in mountainous areas to fetch water. They would like to install a number of large water tanks at strategic points where rainwater can be collected from roofs.
The initiative is intended to eradicate hunger, bring the community together, prevent conflicts by strengthening social ties, while contributing to income improvement in addition to health.
