Project Description
Plenty School gardens for Tanzania
Partner Organisation: Animal Welfare and Environment Network for Tanzania (AWENET)
Country: Tanzania
Animal Welfare and Environment Network Tanzania is committed to introducing school gardens at 12 primary and secondary schools with no less than between 300 and 900 pupils per school. At the school, lessons are given by agricultural expert Nathan Leonard, seeds and materials are arranged and the gardens that are present at the schools are transformed into school vegetable gardens. At the same time, training is given in sustainable agriculture and also how to grow and store open-pollinated seeds for use next season.
At most schools, teaching sustainable agricultural methods has been discontinued and the gardens around the schools have been transformed into gardens with flowers or shrubs. It is so important that pupils gain the knowledge and experience to grow vegetables in a sustainable way with the best chance of success.
