Project Description
Plenty Food Forest Congo
Partner Organisation: Initiative for Progress and Environmental Protection (IPPE)
Country: Congo (DRC):
Our partner IPPE is a local organisation (NGO) that works with a group of motivated people to create more compassion between people, animals and the environment. IPPE has organised several meetings with the community in North Kivu, specifically in the Masisi and Nyiragongo areas. During these meetings, citizens clearly indicated that they would like to develop one or more food forests/agroforestry projects.
This project focuses on 300 people and also involves schools. The aim is to plant approximately 2000 trees on an area of two hectares. Various local tree species with edible products such as fruit, nuts and nutritious leaves are planted and then propagated, in order to preserve the natural heritage and then distribute it again. In this way, it contributes to sustainable environmental management in the region.
This initiative aims to eradicate hunger, bring the community together, prevent conflicts by strengthening social ties, while contributing to income improvement in addition to health.
This food forest can become a great example of how to grow food sustainably in the mountainous area!
IPPE also distributes vegan meals and provides education at schools about the benefits of healthy plant-based food and the importance of protecting (wild) animals and the environment.
