Project Description
Plenty Vegetables for Uganda
Partner organisation: Kiganda Vegan Kids and animal shelter
Kiganda Vegan Kids and Animal Shelter is a small orphanage and animal shelter just outside Kampala. The manager is Kalanzi Vincent. He has adopted 25 children and a variety of animals including 35 cats and 50 dogs, as well as several cows, goats and pigs. The orphans are provided with food, shelter, vocational training and education so that they can build their own future without poverty.
Kiganda Orphanage focuses on healthy nutrition, food security and education for orphans. The charity owns 2 hectares of agricultural land. In this area there is enough space to organize a fruit orchard and a vegetable garden.
After the land has been ploughed, vegetables have been sown, vegetable plants and fruit trees planted. The harvested vegetables and fruits are primarily used to feed the children involved. Whatever is left is sold at the market so that the proceeds can be used to make investments for next year.
